MensajeTema: Evento rolero ambientado en la Primera Edad   Vie 15 Ene 2010 - 0:37

Buenas, gente.

Following the story I narrated with Kalluin yesterday, I was thinking about doing a roleplayed event which would include some adventure. It would be meant for levels 45+ since some action will be included.

These are the guidelines for the event. I guess it would last around 2 hours, maybe 3. I hope you like the idea, and if so, we can search for a date to do it (I don't know your timetable).

Background: First Age, Himring, during the dreadful years before the Nirnaeth but after the Dagor Bragollach. Fingolfin just died a few years ago, and the First House of the Edain has fallen in their feuds of Dorthonion.

The Dark Lord has begun a series of attacks on the southern frontiers, putting a siege to Eithel Sirion, domain of the Second House of the Noldor and with help of the house of Hador.

At Himring, the fortress of Maedhros, things are not easy. Attacks are not rare, and their lord fears a siege which would leave him stuck within its walls. Maedhros' Frontier is the weakest spot in the northern defenses as long as it concerns terrain, after all.

Factions involved: As Kalluin mentioned during the meeting with the Laiquendi, there were more concerns about the defense of that zone other than the Dark Lord. The western marshes of the place touched the eastern part of Ered Gorgoroth, where Ungoliant's foul brood lived unchallenged.

This event introduces a new faction: the Lost Ones. They are elves who escaped from Angamando, but feared Fingolfin's Law. Such law dictated that anyone touched in his soul by the Dark Lord had to die. Only minstrels could see the soul of an elf, and only if he let him do so willingly, so those who escaped Angamando were usually mistreated as soon as they negated the chance to be examined.

Maedhros, being a former prisoner himself, would have created the Order of the Lost Ones, a small group of elves evaded from Angamando but fearful of being killed after Fingolfin's Law during these harsh times.

Events: A large army is coming to Himring, and will probably put it under siege in a matter of days. A balrog has been seen leading the force. Scouts have advised to reinforce the outer defences, and lord Maedhros is getting ready to hold the attack. Another problem, though, has emerged. A hawk arrived during the night from Lost Ones' camp. Being secretive in nature, this group is only known to a few selected ones.

The note says the Ungoli are preparing an attack, and they will need reinforcements. First part of the event would play a group of selected elves who are sent to reinforce the Lost Ones both with their strength and provisions, since if Himring is put under siege, there is no way of knowing when more provisions will be delivered. Starting point will be Gabilshathur, in eastern Malenhad, a dwarf outpost underthe rule of Maedhros after the agreements reached by Caranthir of mutual defense with Belegost and Nogrod.

The second part of the event would be played at the heart of Angmar, which will play as Ered Gorgoroth during the First Age. A roleplayed trip can be done. A possibility here is to make the trip avoiding any orc and human on the way to GF, since they could be scouts from the Enemy, who could divert some of their forces to infict more damage on the Lost Ones if they knew they exist.

Those elves who played roles of the defenders who stay to join the defense of Himring would play the Lost Ones from now on. The camp can be the outside of Garth Fortnir. The Lost Ones would be unstable in their minds, after the terrible pain inflicted by the Dark Lord during their captivity, but fierce in their resolution to fight for the Noldor. They would mistrust fiercely any minstrel present - and in fact, Maedhros could have instructed to go without minstrels, as they could be seen as a provocation to the Lost Ones -.

The Lost Ones would say an attack has been inflicted upon them, and they have lost a few. They wish revenge, and with their renewed force they will propose an attack on the enemy's hatchery (quest Bogbereth's brood).

Last part would be retreating to GF to celebrate victory, when a scout would come back shouting in horror that a matron of the enemy has come to retaliate. This would be the follow up quest, the raid against Bogbereth. After everyone picked up the quest, or shared it, the attack would be done with those present.

Complications: Minstrels are heavily disregarded by the Lost Ones, as they are the ones to enforce Fingolfin's Law. Bogbereth's raid is easy nowadays, but would it be as easy in a minstrel-less raid? Victory and defeat could be the possible outcomes on such an encounter, and a great change to roleplay those bitter days. A minstrel could be present, of course, but he would be seen with mistrust.

Groups and timetables

1.- The Lost Ones: They would play as the elves who stay behind to fight the army at Himring, and the deliverers of the news about the secret camp. Maedhros would need his most important warriors to defend Himring, and so the task to help the Lost Ones would rely on those promising ones, enough to entrust them with the knowledge of their existance. Those who would play later "The Lost Ones" would be the informants of the group.

Once they are at GF, they could roleplay how bad the situation is, with no knowledge of Maedhros except the vision of a large army going to Himring.

When the other group arrives, mistrust would reign as most of them are newcomers.

That would lead to test them in battle against the Ungoli, by doing the first quest. An easy victory. This could be roleplayed as a retaliation against the giant spider which appeared just a few days ago.

The raid is a desperate defense of their very existence. They will be played as desperated at such time.

2.- The help from Himring: One or two people might actually know the Lost Ones, but since Maedhros needs his most faithful captains at his side at this time, he has decided to trust others. This means the characters are not of peak importance, but Maedhros feels he can trust them with this knowledge. It is a way to show he does things different than the Second or the Third Houses.

Of course, there can be those who are grudged by this. Helping those who might be actually renegades or even enemies in disguise is a risk in a time when the Dark Lord is on the offensive.

If the lack of minstrels is roleplayed, then this would add.

The trip to GF would avoid any humanoid, roleplaying the passage near the orc camp as a scouting group. They could be erradicated, of course, but keep in mind this would lenghten the event. The suggested route is through the east, since the dead-filled swamp doesn't fill in with this place and age.

The arrival at GF can be a very good RP moment.

The attack on the hatchery will be funny. The raid after it will be a moment of pure terror, where victory and defeat are uncertain. If victory is achieved, roleplay that. If it is defeat, no doubt some people might be missing after retreating, left as dead.

Citación:
As Galendil said, the proposed date is 26-01. I also propose to play at 20:00h server time (UK), for 3 hours at most. Please, check your local time to make sure you can come!

I certainly will play, as gamemaster, using two of my chars: Kalluin to introduce the scene and Miste at the camp of the Lost Ones.

Everyone playing the game, to prepare it I will need the following - send it to me using private messages, while you tell in this thread your wish to join the event.

- Faction (Himring / The Lost Ones)
- Brief story (two or three lines to get an idea about your char)
- For roleplaying purposes, I'll send some personalized background to every attendant, so inscription is most appreciated. Of course, proposals are accepted. Here is a sample backround.
- If you wish to play along or against someone, tell me so! I can make you brothers, lovers, brothers-in-arms...
- Dwarves and humans are playable as Himring recruits. Maedhros may wish to show other races how he does things different from Fingon and Fingolfin. Hobbits are banned at this era.

Citación:
Miste (Lost One) - A former minstrel under the rule of king Fingolfin, under the rule of the Second House of the Noldor, she was caught prisoner during the first wave of the Dagor Bragollach. Held captive and with no chance to escape, her mind was twisted by the Enemy while she worked in Angband's mines. A prisoner's revolt gave her the chance to flee, only to find herself unworthy of passing the test of Fingolfin's Law. Her heart now is filled with hatred for the Enemy who put shadow into her heart, and so she doesn't wish to pass away from this life yet.

Connections: Miste's husband, Kalluin, was the one who convinced their lord Maedhros to keep her wife from Fingon's minstrels, and so she joined the Lost Ones. Miste is angry with her husband because he still is at Himring while she is at the camp, but understands she is no longer the elf she used to be.

RP flaw: anger. Miste is clearly under the influence of the Enemy, and despite she is still capable to fight him, no elf would feel easy near her. She is quick to anger.

Gameplay flaw: as a tainted minstrel, she always is in war-speech. Her mind is too troubled to focus on healing, but is eager to fight.

Not all characters will have gameplay flaws. You can assume the tainted Lost Ones will be forced to use DPS stances.

But all players will get a RP flaw, which is there to enhance roleplaying. Too often, players tend to make their characters more powerful in words than anything else, and conflict not always arises. Flaws are there to provoke interaction, conflict and fun for everyone.

Since raid size makes the maximum for the event, 24 is the maximum of people we can have. From Galendil's words, though, I guess we'll be far less people.
